Amsterdam’s Old School Converted into Modern Apartment | Ons Dorp

In Amsterdam, 10 young families have found each other through social network and came together to form the group of “Ons Dorp” (our village) to commission the conversion of an old school building in the Bellamy neighbourhood into 10 modern apartments.

The plan

Casa Architecten has converted the building into 10 beautiful apartments of varying sizes between 100-150 sqm that suit each family’s wishes. Every apartment has access to outdoor space, whether it is a garden, roof terrace or a balcony.

The apartment shown here is a family home for 5, designed by Standard Studio.

A Contemporary Apartment in Amsterdam by DENOLDERVLEUGELS

This is a 300 sqm apartment that occupies the top 3 levels of a building complex built in 1925. It has been completely renovated by DENOLDERVLEUGELS into a contemporary and polished home for a Dutch family who are settling down in Amsterdam after living abroad for many years.

My favourite part of the apartment – the handsome kitchen and the large pane of glass and steel panels that separate the different zones of the apartment.

A Minimalistic HDB Jumbo Flat by Desmond Ong

Surprise to find this space a HDB flat in Singapore?

The spacious apartment was featured in the October issue of Home & Decor magazine. It is actually a jumbo unit made up of a 3-room and 4-room flat into a single apartment of 1765 sqft. I’m seriously envious of the amount of space that the house owners are getting here :D

The owners wanted a clearly minimalistic theme for their home and they have worked with designer Desmond Ong to realize their vision. Almost all the internal walls were taken down to create an open layout that feels so light and airy. Given the white walls as blank canvas, I would be tempted to add a layer or two of colors and accessories. But the home owners and designer have decidedly keeping it sparsely styled in a restrained colour palette of white, grey and wood tone to stay true to the clean, minimalistic theme. Every piece of furniture here is functional and beautiful.

This may not be a home that suits everyone’s liking or life style (there isn’t a lot of hidden storage to stash all those little things you may accumulate, hence discipline is needed in decluttering to maintain the clean minimalistic look :)), but I really like the what the designers and home owners have achieved here!

Peggy Bels | Urban Apartment in Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong

Merry Christmas! May this holiday season sparkle and shine! and I hope you like the apartment in today’s post like I do :)

This 605 sqft apartment in Ap Lei Chau was once dark and dingy, but it does come with picture-perfect view of Aberdeen’s busy harbour (make sure you scroll to view the last picture of the post!). With the help from French interior designer Peggy Bels, the apartment was transformed into a bright and modern adobe that showcases touches of chic Parisian flair.
