A Crisp and Clean Singapore Apartment by The Scientist

I love white walls, because they are the perfect blank canvas for artwork and accessories that inject character to a space.

I love it too when white walls are left bare. It conjures up a clean and crisp look when it is done right. Such is the magic of white walls. Just like this Amber Garden apartment designed by The Scientist. Minimal and sensual.

A European Chic Terrace House in Joo Chiat, Singapore

NeighboursFirst.sg is the POSB’s creative initiative to showcase narratives of the neighbourhoods in Singapore through three key pillars – people, places and purpose. You could find videos, photography, illustration and editorial articles that share the Singapore neighourhood stories in the content platform.

Home is Where the Art is” is one of the series that features HDB flats and apartments with unique design, and I am really drawn to this terrace house along Joo Chiat place. This European chic house is filled with vintage and flea-market finds curated  from all over the world. What’s more amazing is that it is a rented place! This must be one of the nicest decorated rented place I’ve ever seen..

A Minimalistic HDB Jumbo Flat by Desmond Ong

Surprise to find this space a HDB flat in Singapore?

The spacious apartment was featured in the October issue of Home & Decor magazine. It is actually a jumbo unit made up of a 3-room and 4-room flat into a single apartment of 1765 sqft. I’m seriously envious of the amount of space that the house owners are getting here :D

The owners wanted a clearly minimalistic theme for their home and they have worked with designer Desmond Ong to realize their vision. Almost all the internal walls were taken down to create an open layout that feels so light and airy. Given the white walls as blank canvas, I would be tempted to add a layer or two of colors and accessories. But the home owners and designer have decidedly keeping it sparsely styled in a restrained colour palette of white, grey and wood tone to stay true to the clean, minimalistic theme. Every piece of furniture here is functional and beautiful.

This may not be a home that suits everyone’s liking or life style (there isn’t a lot of hidden storage to stash all those little things you may accumulate, hence discipline is needed in decluttering to maintain the clean minimalistic look :)), but I really like the what the designers and home owners have achieved here!
